Today’s episode is a little something different for all of you. I’ve got my good friend Tyler Sheff in the studio today with me. For those of you who don’t know, Tyler at Cash Flow Guys produces this podcast, The Real Deal Podcast with Larry Harbolt. We’ve been working together for about a year and found we had a mutual passion for helping people in our market. Tyler and I are both non-gurus who want to educate the real estate investing community honestly, without the sketchy bullshit many are putting out there today.
I’ve been a student of some of the best minds out there: Jimmy Napier, Jack Miller, John Shaw, and Pete Fortunato. These are some of the most established authorities in their fields and, in my opinion, some of the greatest minds in finance. A disturbing trend we’re both seeing today, however, is the rise of “gurus” that have no real experience, but are making their money from selling courses about things they don’t know. In order to weed out the truth from the false, here are a few things to think about:
- Are they approachable? I don’t have a proxy to teach any of my boot camps; I’m the one who is there for the entire event, including mealtimes. I make himself available to my students by phone and email. You can always reach me one way or the other.
- Do they have real, quality content and materials? We recently had a marketing expert in our office to help with our business. He was BLOWN AWAY by how much content we pack into our courses. Usually, there’s some mediocre materials to work with; in our case, it was a LIBRARY of QUALITY.
- Are they preaching that you’ll get rich quick or get unrealistic results? If something sounds too good to be true, IT IS. There is no get rich quick in real estate; flipping will give you some cash in your pocket now, but it isn’t the path to real, long-term wealth. If it was so easy, there would be no working poor or lower class.
